Search help and value help

Nobody remembers an equipment number. Search help turns a field into a lookup against real records — FSA objects, your own user-defined objects, or an S/4 value list — with matching done on the server so three letters is enough.

  1. 1

Point the field at a source

In the field dialog, choose what the lookup reads: an FSA object, a user-defined object, or a value list from S/4. The field then stores the identifier while showing the person something readable.

  2. 2

    Choose what is displayed

Pick a primary display field and, optionally, extra ones. Matching runs across all of them, so typing part of a description finds the record even when the identifier is what gets stored.

  3. 3

    Scope it to the context

A lookup can be narrowed by another field's value — plant, customer, contract — so the list a person sees is the list that could possibly be right. This is the difference between a usable dropdown and a scroll through four thousand rows.
